Passwords
With this simple (Hypertext >Passwords...) dialog you can assign passwords to groups of pages. For example you can create an ebook with 10 pages of free introduction, then you can password protect the other pages. You can use just one password, or more passwords, and you can also make the password(s) different for each user (the EbooksReader asks for the user’s name once installed). Click on the image to get Help:
To setup a password, press the "Add" button. This adds the password to the global list on the left. Then select the password, and on the right check the pages that will be protected with that password. Then press OK and save the ebook.
You can setup different passwords for different users (click on the image to learn more; see the PDF manual also). Please notice that the same exe file can be given to all customers: it's only name/password that would be different, so this dialog window incorporates a password calculator utility (you can calculate any number of password on the fly without having to save the ebook). When they match the customer can see the ebook.
So, first you save a single exe ebook (you can put it on the website), second for each customer you enter name and email and the program can calculate individual passwords. You insert first customer name and email, calculate password(s), copy it on an email or to a doc, then insert second customer name and so on...
In conclusion, for each customer you can provide: a copy of the ebook; name email and password that they must use to see the ebook.
Your passwords are stored in a .EWP file (do not distribute this file!!), saved in the same directory of your AEH file. IMPORTANT: if you forget a password, there is no way for recovering it.
When a page is password protected, it is crippled with a strong 128 bit algorithm.
If you want to set up an expiration data, and/or disable the print and the clipboard copy, choose the first tab (
click here). If the expiry date is February 23 2010, the document will be visible until midnight of the 23, so it actually expires the first second of the 24th.
