Create e-book, save a compact SFX (self-installing) .exe ebook
SFX stands for "selfextracting" or self-installing, i.e. an ebook that autorun when the user clicks the file, maybe after a download from the Internet.
With EBooksWriter you can type, page, protect and then pack your ebook as SFX .exe file.
For test purpose, you may create a simple one-page work.
When your ebook is ready within EBooksWriter, you choose from the main menu “File >Save SFX .exe ebook”.
The program will ask you where to save the ebook (a common File save dialog will be shown), then it will show a window where you can edit the license statement (see "Hypertext >Current Hypertext Properties
" to enable/disable the license) for the ebook:
Then you press OK and it automatically creates the self extracting file, and will ask you if you want to see the folder that contains the ebook.
That’s all. Now you have the .EXE and it will run on any PC without the need of any other software. You can send it by email or you can put this file on your web site available for download, or (where this applies) you can send it to your e-commerce so they will deliver automatically the file to the people after purchase.
It’s really a snap!!!
Please notice that is mandatory to place links between pages
: the end user can not use the "page number" facility, which is provided just as a quick means to switch between pages during development. With links you can control the reading path, and say move the user from page 0 to 45 and then to 3 and to 2. It is not necessary to adopt the structure of a regular printed book.
So be sure to put some content and some links in the cover page (the one shown with "Hypertext >Cover" menu) that is the first page shown to your readers. Then they can click on links to switch pages, so YOU decide what can be read by whom, and in what order.
ADDITIONAL OUTPUT FORMATS
Additionally, if you want you may distribute the ebook as AEH
file. It can be read with the free EbooksReader (TM)
. It is analogous to PDF and Acrobat Reader (TM) - but the AEH is better as the text within AEH ebooks is "reflowable".
The ebook can be as well saved (it is automatically converted, no additional effort or editing is needed, the conversion is automatic) as IDPF OPF / OEB
(Open Packaging Format, OPS Open Publication Structure / OEB OEBPS standard), MOBI
(Macintosh, Palm, Pocket PC, Windows Mobile / CE, SymbianOS, iLiad, eBookMan, Kindle, Blackberry, Mac OS X, Sony Reader, Handheld PC and several new cell phones and devices every day or so).
