Security Warnings Download - Unknown Publisher XP Vista 7 IE Explorer

Microsoft has "improved" security in Microsoft Explorer / Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, but in doing so has also added some new warnings. When you download a file on the new Explorer, you will now be faced with a window like the one below with the details of the download you are attempting:

You should choose Save - running anything from a download location is almost always a bad idea. Additionally, you don't have a backup copy after the download if you run from the Internet.

So save, e.g. on the desktop.

Then, sometimes there's more.

Security Warnings from XP, Vista, 7 and/or Internet Explorer, on Installation

If you run a file that has been download from the Internet, additional warnings are now displayed if there is not a "digital signature". This is associated with the download, even if you rename the file on XP Vista 7 (but not if you copy it to a USB key or move it to a Compressed folder, and then back out again). The warning should look like the message below:

And so, why this "Unknown Publisher" for some of the VisualVision products downloads?

Well, it means that it does not have a "digital signature". The "digital signature" is a thing that can be applied to a software: it just identify the manufacturer, not its honesty or the product "security" (regrettably, also useless software is signed; and we have seen "signed" even some wasteful legal dialer / ringtone applications - a legal but not so ethical way to charge you money).

So this warning is quite useless for real security purpose. But, to remove the warning, you must pay and put the digital signature... Honestly, we really don't like to pay somebody just to say we are "known". Actually we are offended for this Microsoft behavior. We do software since 1996 (we started with "freeware"), we sell software since 1998 under the VisualVision Registered Trade Mark, and from any public "WHOIS" service (e.g. register.com) you can verify that visualvision.com is registered since 1999. It's not yesterday (Google was invented in 1998). Even the best "King of Fraud" would find impossible to maintain active a bad business so long.

While we are here, we want you to notice that after more than 10 years VisualVision is still in business - unlike the 99% of the other Internet Companies born at the end of the 20th century. This must mean something.
