How to link to hypertext on CD / left hypertext on CD
With the CD Wizard you can create a ready-to-use CDROM.
During the install process, any hypertext included in the list on the first dialog of the Wizard is transferred onto the final user’s Hard Disk (HD). For example, in the window below, the Wizard copies the hypertext index.aeh on the CD, and tells to the installer to install index.aeh on user’s HD.
Sometimes you may want to leave on the CD some hypertext documents, for example because they are large and you prefer that user will browse them directly from CD.
This is very easy. First create a directory on the CD (actually we mean “in the temporary directory you will use as master for the CD”) and call it test. Then put within it all hypertext documents you want to be leaven on the CD, for example test1.aeh, test2.aeh. Note that you must not include these hypertext in the Wizard’s list.
Then, in the Wizard’s list, place at least one hypertext: this hypertext will be the only one that will be installed on the final user’s Hard Disk, and must contain links to the other hypertext you intend to left on the CD. This is neededunless the reader will not be able to browse the other hypertext documents.
These links have to be placed in the following way.
Use “Insert >Link”, the “Other hypertext page” tab...
...and write in the edit box something like: iper://cddrive:\path\myhypertext.aeh|123
For instance if the hypertext we want to link is test1.aeh, in the directory test, and we want to link to the page 0, we will have to write: iper://cddrive:\test\test1.aeh|0
The word cddrive: is a way to tell PaperKiller that it must automatically insert the CD drive name.
It is worthwhile to repeat that you have to store on the HD at least one hypertext, the main one. There’s no way to avoid this, it will be the hypertext listed as entry in the Windows “Start” menu, so the user will need it to see your CD. It may be just a cover page, with links to hypertext documents on CD. Remember that you have to tell to the program what is that main hypertext, with the box at the bottom right of the following window (default hypertext name):
It is a very simple process: with some attemps you should be able to create professional CDROMs in minutes.
